The American National University men's basketball team returns to action today, beginning a 3-game home stand in Newport News, Virginia.
The Eagles (2-2) take on Bryant & Stratton (Albany) on Thursday, January 16 at 6 pm. The Bobcats (11-10) are led by junior Jamil Hood (21.2 ppg; 2nd in USCAA DI).
On Saturday, January 18, the Eagles face Virginia University of Lynchburg at 2:00 pm, a rematch of ANU's historic season-opening 81-67 victory over the Dragons.
On Tuesday, January 21, the Eagles welcome the Mustangs (4-8) of Mid-Atlantic Christian University at 7:00 pm.
Despite having a young program in its first season, Coach Franklin Chatman's players occupy a number of top spots in USCAA statistics. Freshman forward Keith Stagg leads the league in scoring at 30.3 points per game. Junior forward Earl Fuller leads in rebounds (14.8 per game) with junior guard Jamonte Ricks in the second spot with 10.8 boards per game. Senior guard Troy Mills is second in the league in 3-point field goal percentage at 57.1% with Fuller right behind him in third at an even 50%.
