CARES Act Reporting December 09, 2023

The CARES Act, which establishes and funds the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), directs institutions of higher education to use no less than 50 percent of funds received under Sections 18004(a)(1) and 18004(c) of the CARES Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus.

American National University (ANU) has signed and completed the Funding Certification and Agreement for the Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students and Institutions.  We acknowledge the understanding of the agreement and intend to use these funds to provide 50 percent of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) grants to students.

ANU has received the CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund for the student portion as below:

Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds for ANU Students:

The CARES Act – HEERF are grant funds related to the disruption of campus operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students will not be asked to pay these grant funds back.  The grants will not change a student’s federal financial aid.

Steps to Apply:

  1. Fill out the application provided by the Financial Aid Office (Sample Application Form – PDF)
  2. Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for both 2019/20 and 2020/21 and clear all required verification requested.
  3. Students will be contacted by the ANU Financial Aid staff if additional items are needed.

Eligibility and Requirements:

  1. Be enrolled in an eligible program on March 13, 2020 and remain attending at time of grant disbursement.
  2. Be eligible recipient of Federal Financial Aid.
  3. Be in good standing both academically and financially at time of grant disbursement.
