American National University’s Health Information Management Program (HIM) offered 100% online recently received the prestigious programmatic accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), a United States Department of Education recognized organization.

Graduating from a program that is accredited by CAHIIM signifies to employers that the student attended an institution that gave them up-to-date, quality knowledge and experiences in the modern electronic health record (EHR) environment. Students are eligible and equipped with the knowledge to sit for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT®️)* examination. At ANU, students are trained as HIM professionals capable of managing patients’ medical data, patient care records, as well as how to operate electronic records and accompanying software programs.

To qualify for CAHIIM accreditation, the institution must meet CAHIIM’s rigorous program standards for curricula, faculty, resources, and continuing education.

The 100% online program, institutionally accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission, joins the campus-based program at the Louisville, Kentucky campus (institutionally accredited by the Allied Bureau of Health Education Schools). ANU’s Louisville program has been CAHIIM-accredited since 2001.

Upon successful graduation, with ANU’s stackable degree pathways, the student can seamlessly advance to the next level into the Medical and Health Services Management bachelor’s degree.

Website Medical Assistant Advice has ranked American National University the #3 best Medical Assisting Programs in Virginia and #11 in Kentucky for 2020. These two programs –associate’s degree and certificate options are available – allow the student to select the one that best suits their academic history and future goals. Should a student later decide they want to enroll in the associate’s program upon the completion of the certificate program, the programs are designed to allow 100% transfer of credits from one program to the other.

Medical Assistant Advice (MAA) notes the “student-centric benefits” both students and graduates are assured with an ANU education. MAA also ranks ANU highly due to the flexibility our classes allow within students’ schedules as we offer day, evening, or weekend classes, for your convenience. Another perk of an ANU education is that it allows refresher courses for graduates at no additional tuition cost to keep our graduates up to date with the latest and emerging trends within the industry.

We understand that students want to be on their way to their careers as quickly as possible while still receiving a quality education to fully prepare them for their industry. The Medical Assisting certificate can be completed in as few as 10 months and the associate’s degree in 20 months because of ANU’s rolling terms that start every six to seven weeks. The frequent term starts also mean you don’t have to wait around for the next semester to start. Additionally, we offer a progressive learning format so as you earn your degree, you can immediately use your training to advance your career as you continue your education in pursuit of a higher degree level. ANU offers labs and externships which offer further opportunities to apply learned skills and competencies. Regardless of whether you are in the certificate or associate’s degree program, you are eligible to take the certification exam to earn your Registered Medical Assistant credential, recognized nationwide.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assistant training will give you the experience and confidence to succeed in one of the fastest-growing occupations.

At American National University, we understand that balancing family, work, and everyday life with higher education courses can feel impossible. Over more than a century, we have been helping students just like you achieve their goals of a better life through education. We have applied that experience, together with today’s most advanced educational technology, to make it possible for you to pursue a full-time university education and complete your educational program in the least amount of time possible.

Accelerated programs at ANU allow students to complete a two-year degree in as few as 20 months due to our frequent and continuous terms – a new one every six to seven weeks. We also offer convenient scheduling of day or evening classes – and in many cases weekends – to allow you to attend the university full-time while also balancing your other commitments.

If you have credits from other universities or colleges, ANU has a liberal policy regarding the acceptance of transfer credits – we want to give students full credit for things they have already learned. We try to minimize roadblocks that students often run into when changing institutions. In fact, you can transfer up to 75% of the credits for an undergraduate program, or 50% of a master’s program, toward your ANU degree. For more information about transfer credits, click here.

ANU is a veteran-led and managed institution, and we understand the great sacrifices that veterans and current military members have made for this country. ANU gives back by allowing veterans and current members of the military to transfer credits for their military schooling and experience. For more information on ANU’s military and veteran benefits, click here.

Our approach is simple – we make it possible for anyone to pursue the dream of a university education, without requiring you to invest years and years of your life.
