Update April 22, 2021

With the emergence of COVID-19, national policies regarding international student visas, specifically F-1 and M-1 visas, are constantly and quickly evolving. In July 2020, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that new international students would not at this time be permitted to come to the United States while taking entirely online classes. Though American National University is largely conducted online, ANU has always functioned and continues to function under SEVP guidelines for hybrid programs through residency. Residencies will continue with live instruction via Zoom in place of in-person meetings due to ongoing health risks of the COVID-19 pandemic until July 31, 2021. This solution ensures minimal negative impact for students, their classes, and their ability to receive a quality education.

For new F-1 visa students not currently in the United States who wish to study on an F-1 student visa, ANU is issuing acceptance letters for the term beginning July 25, 2021. A four-day on-campus residency is planned for the Louisville, Kentucky campus from September 9-12, 2021. In order to give yourself the best chance of being scheduled for a visa interview we recommend that you apply now for our July term start.

International students already in the United States will resume on-campus residencies according to the following schedule:

Salem, VA (graduate students): Term 216 – October 21-24, 2021

Salem, VA (undergraduate students): Term 217 – November 2021

Louisville, KY (graduate students): Term 215 – September 9-12, 2021

To reiterate: ANU’s hybrid program delivery with residencies conducted temporarily via live ZOOM videoconferencing in response to COVID-19 is fully compliant with SEVP requirements for international students to maintain their F1 visa status.

This page will be updated whenever there is additional news to report regarding the visa statuses of international students.
