Graduate Enjoys Her Challenging Career as an Office Manager

Ann Jewett is working as the office manager of Parrish Home Care Services after earning degrees in medical assisting and health information management at the $$Dayton Campus.

Before coming to American National University, Ann was working as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) when she lost her job because her department was shut down.  “I said ‘What am I going to do now?’” Ann recalled.  “I kept seeing American National University commercials.  I went and I applied, and I’ve been there ever since.”

[img]Ann liked the small class size that she found at National, and she enjoyed learning from instructors who shared their experiences from the field.  “The teachers were caring and willing to help you and go that extra mile,” said Ann.  “It just felt like home.”

As she came to the end of her program, the campus career center director helped her write her résumé and alerted her to a number of openings in her field, including the position at Parrish Home Care Services.  She interviewed with the company and was offered the job just a few days later.

Pauline Evans, who hired her, said that Ann’s medical training has been very beneficial in her job.  “Her personality is wonderful,” said Ms. Evans.  “She handles the patients very well.  She’s a wonderful worker.”
As the office manager, Ann performs scheduling for the home care aids, and conducts insurance verifications and referrals for their clients, among many other duties.  “I love it here,” said Ann.  “It’s a small, family atmosphere.  It’s challenging and I like to be challenged.”
