ALL American National University locations have been closed to the public. Essential staff at the Salem and Pikeville Campuses, as well as the Campus Support Center in Roanoke, are working on-site and observing strict social distancing protocols. University services, including all classes, student services, financial aid, and admissions are operating via Global Learn™ / Global Meet™ remote services until further notice.

March 23, 2020 Update:
Last week, as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) began to affect everyday life in the United States, I issued directives that allowed most of the classes at American National University to be conducted via the interactive digital videoconference system, Zoom, which is used in all of our synchronous online classes. At that time, since English as a second language classes and laboratory and clinical classes were small, we allowed them to continue to be conducted in the classrooms at the campus. We also encouraged everyone to take appropriate cautions to protect themselves from the coronavirus and reserved the possibility of making appropriate modifications to additional classes, even those that are small with minimal attendance and interaction.
It is now time to make modifications to ensure the protection of the entire American National University family. In consultation with the department chairpersons, especially those in the nursing and academic medical departments, we have determined that all remaining classes can be conducted via the Zoom distance education mode of delivery. Therefore, effective today, March 23, 2020, attendance in all classes are to be accomplished via the students linking to the classroom presentations and interacting by using their home or office computer systems. Attendance in the classes by Zoom will be recorded just as they are now, and instructors will make equivalent classroom presentations. Zoom allows students to interact with questions, comments, and responses just as if they were in a physical classroom.
The few students who may not have Internet service at their home or office may utilize the campus computers and connection systems. Staff will ensure that any students using the University systems on campus will maintain appropriate social distances and not consist of more than five students within a single room.
Labs and medical procedures classes which require the student to demonstrate proficiencies may be arranged by the department chairpersons and instructors at varying times to allow students who wish to participate in order to demonstrate appropriate proficiencies to do so without group gatherings. Individual and small groups of students, using common sense social distance separations, under the supervision of the instructor, will still be able to complete the appropriate performance objectives of these classes in a timely fashion during the term.
These updated Coronavirus crisis policies will be in effect at all American National University campuses until May 16, 2020, which coincides with the end of Term 202. Academic terms that begin between now and May 16 will follow these policies until that date. Of course, updates to these directives will be made as necessary to adjust to this national and community health emergency.
